Meter Reading and Inspections
At Florida City Gas, your safety is our number one priority. That’s why we use the latest technology to help us read your meter electronically with little physical interruptions at your home or business.
However, as an important part of our safety and maintenance programs, and as mandated by federal and state regulations, Florida City Gas periodically conducts a physical survey of our natural gas mains, service lines and meter sets. These meter inspections include, but are not limited to, pipeline locating, leak survey and periodic meter testing.
In order to safely and successfully survey your meter during these inspections, we occassionally will need access to it. If your meter is located behind a locked gate or fenced-in area and you are not available, we will leave a postcard or door hanger and ask that you call us at 800.993.7546 to schedule this maintenance check.
Tips for a Seamless Meter Reading:
- Unlock: Please leave the gate/fence unlocked on the day we are scheduled to visit.
- Leash: Please ensure pets and animals are moved away from the meter and are unable to approach the technician.
- Availability: Please be available at the premises during the scheduled appointment.
- Construction: Please provide a clear path to the meter.
- Clean: Please remove excess vegetation or trash prior to the scheduled appointment.
How to Read Your Meter
Understanding how to read your meter helps you understand how much gas your home or business is using. This allows you to ensure Florida City Gas is charging you for the right amount of gas. If you have any questions or concerns about your meter reading, contact us today.
- Read the numbers for each dial going from left to right.
- Always read the numbers in the direction the arrow on the dial is pointing.
- If the pointer is between two numbers, always select the smaller number, unless the pointer is between 0 and 9, then select 9.
- If a pointer is directly on a number, look at the dial to its immediate right. If its pointer has not passed zero, record the lower number.
The reading for this example is 2984.
If you rent and do not have access to your meter, please contact the owner of the building and have them call us at 800.993.7546.
